Bagels are for the Birds

While walking to my son’s daycare in this unseasonably warm Toronto weather, I noticed some circular objects spinning in the wind hanging from tree branches.  Once I got closer I saw that they were bird feeders made from bagel.  How clever!  So if you are looking to welcome birds back to your neighbourhood this Family Day weekend, try this activity at home.

Make a Bagel Bird Feeder

What You Need:

  • Bagel
  • Yarn
  • Peanut Butter
  • Bird Seed

What You Do:

  1. Cut the bagel in half.
  2. Spread each half with a layer of peanut butter.
  3. Press the covered bagel into bird seed, completely covering it.
  4. String the yarn through the center hole of the bagel. Tie the ends together.
  5. Hang outside in view of a window where you (and your child) can watch the wild birds come to feast.

Enjoy!
