2016 Ontario BioBlitz in the Credit River Watershed
Hosted by: Ontario BioBlitz
When: June 11-12, 2016
Registration Required.

This year's flagship Ontario BioBlitz is taking place in the Credit River Watershed.

The BioBlitz will provide an important biodiversity snapshot of three locations within the watershed (including Terra Cotta Conservation, located inside Ontario's Greenbelt).

The location of this year's BioBlitz is especially timely. For one, Mississauga City Council recently unanimously endorsed a motion to add the publicly owned lands along the Credit River to Ontario's Greenbelt.  And two, the creation of a Master Plan for the Credit Valley Trail is in full-swing.

What's a BioBlitz? As described on the Ontario BioBlitz website, "a BioBlitz brings together taxonomic experts, citizen scientists and the general public to inventory all species (plants, animals, fungi and more) in a particular area over a  24 hour period. As the Blitz proceeds and after it is done, the species records are compiled into a single data set...which provides a snapshot of the biodiversity in that location on that date."
