Countryside Stewardship Connection

Do you want to connect with the Credit River watershed’s rural community? Do you want to share success stories, discuss issues, and learn about countryside living and the environment? Are you looking for expert advice on caring for your land and water?

Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) and the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation introduce a brand new online discussion forum called the Countryside Stewardship Connection. The Connection allows rural landowners, community groups, environmental agencies and local businesses to network with each other and CVC in a new and exciting way.

The online social networking site is user-friendly and accessible via cell phone, tablet, or laptop all in the comfort of your own home.

The Connection allows individuals to become a member, ask questions, provide feedback, and share their issues and success stories on discussion forums to help build a strong rural community. The online tool is a stepping stone along the path to a more resilient, healthy environment for today and future generations.

“The Connection is going to be a great place to chat with neighbours and other landowners in the countryside. We’ve been missing a platform to ask questions and learn from each other and this online tool will help fill that gap” says Bridget Ryan, a Wellington equine farm owner.

It’s easy to become a member at www.csconnection.ca. As an additional benefit, the first 100 new members to join the Connection will be entered into a draw for a chance to win one of two $50 market buck vouchers at their local farmers’ market. Also, if you are the top forum participant (most posts) by September 1, 2014 you will win a $100 market buck voucher.

"With sites like LinkedIn and Facebook, social media is one of the most widely used tools used to connect people--it makes sense to connect landowners and community groups in a similar way," says Burkhard Mausberg, CEO of the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation. "We are excited to support this cutting-edge online tool. Encouraging strong engagement and collaboration among landowners about environmental stewardship of their land is vital for Ontario's Greenbelt and its future as we look to grow the Greenbelt along the Credit River Valley."

The Connection is an innovative social networking site and a first of its kind for Conservation Authorities. Later this year, CVC will be working with neighboring Conservation Authorities to share the technology so that they can set-up their own watershed specific discussion forums.
