Happy Valley Forest, Oak Ridges Moraine

artist statement:
"The Happy Valley Forest in the Oak Ridges Moraine, is a truly magical place.  It is a patch of fantastically bio-diverse forest found just north of Vaughan and the City of Toronto.  In early fall we came across a number of these red efts crawling through the leaf litter in the forest; a mass migration as they sought new aquatic habitats. It was a challenge to walk along the trail without accidentally crushing one of these beautifully coloured creatures. I love close up pictures, it provides a perspective that you don't typically get to see. The red eft is the terrestrial form of the eastern newt, and tiny but voracious predator among the species that live on the forest floor." ---Kate Goodale, King City
