Farmers’ Markets Celebrate Buying Local with Free Market Bucks

Free Market Bucks Returning to Farmers’ Markets and TD Branches this Summer

Market Bucks are back!

With the support of $25,000 from TD Bank Group, the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation is connecting farmers’ markets with TD’s loyal customers in several Greenbelt communities by giving away free Market Bucks to purchase fresh and delicious local food.

Each Market Buck is redeemable for $5 worth of merchandise at select local markets. Spending Market Bucks and investing in local markets helps reduce food miles, and supports the region's farmers and Ontario's Greenbelt, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

The demand for fresh and delicious Greenbelt-produced food continues to grow. TD’s Market Buck giveaway program is a creative way to help get more Ontarians out to their local farmers’ markets while supporting their community’s economy.

"The demand for fresh and delicious Greenbelt-produced food continues to grow,” says Burkhard Mausberg, CEO, Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation. “TD’s Market Buck giveaway program is a creative way to help get more Ontarians out to their local farmers’ markets while supporting their community’s economy.”

"Providing access to local produce, is a win-win-win – for farmers, local markets and consumers," said Mary Desjardins, Executive Director, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation. "This program is a great opportunity for us to support both the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation and the communities where our employees and customers live and work."

Forty TD Canada Trust branches and nine farmers' markets in Aurora, Burlington, Markham, Mississauga, Oakville, Port Credit, Stouffville, and Woodbridge are participating in the program. Each TD branch will have 200 Market Bucks to give away to customers and each participating market will also hand out 50 five-dollar coupons.
