During the first week of February, over 2000 Greenbelt supporters and friends cast votes for a Peoples' Choice winner.
We are pleased to announce Peter Dusek as the winner of the Peoples' Choice Award—Congratulations!
Mr. Dusek's photo, entitled "Island Lake Dusk," garnered 668 votes.
"I took this photograph of Daisy, my faithful companion, one still autumn evening at the Island Lake Conservation Area in Orangeville, with a view west across the dock of the Island Lake Rowing Club. While she loves to swim in the lake, that night she was just enjoying the sights, sounds, and scents of dusk settling in over the water — a quiet moment of "just being”. The final echo of the sunset remains over the horizon to the right, its light being replaced by the glow of Orangeville lights and their reflection in the water. As a landscape photographer, I had my tripod set up, not planning to have Daisy in the scene, but she came just at the right moment and stood perfectly still as I was testing my exposures, resulting in this beautiful photograph." — Peter Dusek
The Peoples' Choice Winner will be exhibited among 20 photographs selected by a jury composed of staff from the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, and the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC).
The first exhibit will take place at McMichael from March 1 to June 30, 2017. From there, the photos will hit the road to travel the Greenbelt for the summer. Stay tuned!
