Last week, my youngest daughter Sierra asked me if I could get her 30 copies of the Greenbelt Kids Activity books. The Greenbelt Foundationproduced this 33-page Kids Activity book as a means to reach out to the young ones to learn about Ontario’s Greenbelt through games, puzzles and drawings. We produced these books in partnership with the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and they were a big hit at the Fair as well as many other places.
When I asked my daughter why she needed 30 copies, she said “Well Daddy, I want to make sure every kid in my class plus my teacher has a copy of it. So we can all learn about the Greenbelt.” Well, it’s a particularly heart-warming moment when your daughter, who just entered third grade, is eager to share with her classmates and teacher something that I was very proud of developing for Ontario’s Greenbelt.
Now that we’re running out of printed copies of the Kids Activity Book we are once again looking for a partner to help us shape a new version and help us cover the cost of production, printing and distribution. So far, we have distributed 200,000 copies throughout the Greenbelt and we look forward to doing a whole bunch more.
In the meantime, I will await Sierra’s report on how popular the books were in her class and what her classmates came up with in their drawings, puzzles and quizzes.
