GREENBELT FOUNDATION ACCEPTING FUNDING APPLICATIONS FOR FALL GRANT ROUND
The Greenbelt Foundation invites applications for funding to protect and enhance Ontario’s Greenbelt and its water systems in particular
Applications are now open through the Greenbelt Foundation’s Prosperous Greenbelt and Resilient Greenbelt funding streams. Eligible charities and non-profit organizations are encouraged to submit their project ideas by September 28, 2018. The Greenbelt Foundation particularly welcomes applications for projects related to enhancing the Greenbelt’s water resource systems and the role they play in the continued prosperity and high quality of life offered in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
“The Greenbelt represents a significant opportunity for our region to support vibrant rural communities and healthy natural systems as integral components of the Greater Golden Horseshoe’s economic and social capital,” says Edward McDonnell, CEO of the Greenbelt Foundation. “Through our grant program, the Greenbelt Foundation is investing in realizing this opportunity for environmental and economic returns from the Greenbelt.”
The two funding streams work together to support both the ecological health of the Greenbelt, and the success of the Greenbelt’s working landscape. The Prosperous Greenbelt funding stream invests in projects that support vibrant rural communities, while the Resilient Greenbelt funding stream encourages investment in the Greenbelt’s natural and water resources systems as well as its agricultural soils.
As our region continues to grow and urbanize, investments in the Greenbelt and its urban river valleys are needed to meet growing challenges – protecting water quality, reducing flood risks and impacts, conserving water in agricultural soils, and providing access to nature for all communities. Through its funding program, the Greenbelt Foundation is building on the benefits the Greenbelt already provides in these critical areas.
