Pickering – In one of 15 community cycling events throughout Ontario, the City of Pickering partnered with Legends, Bay Cycle Bike Depot, and Cycle Life to encourage residents to ride their bike’s along Pickering’s waterfront trail to the annual Summer Concert Series. The special bike-friendly edition of the Summer Concert Series included a bike scavenger hunt.

The Honourable Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport and Member of Parliament for Burlington and Burlington Deputy Mayor Jack Dennison join Cyclists for Celebration in Spencer Smith Park
Burlington – Cyclists of all ages gathered in Spencer Smith Park on the city’s waterfront for Burlington Bike Fest. Organized by the Burlington Cycling Committee, the City of Burlington, and Burlington Tourism, Bike Fest is an Ontario 150 Celebrate by Bike event – one of fifteen such community cycling events taking place throughout Ontario in summer 2017. Ontario 150 Celebrate by Bike showcases Ontario’s cycling assets including iconic routes– the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail and the Greenbelt Route, and Bike Friendly Communities. Burlington is home to both iconic trails and is one of 39 Bike Friendly communities in Ontario, having achieved a Silver rating from the Share the Road Cycling Coalition.

The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation launched an upgraded, interactive platform building on the success of the GreenbeltRoute. Greenbelt Explore includes the 475km Greenbelt Route, twelve 1-day and overnight cycling loops, 21 Greenbelt Walks, and 3 Brewery Discovery Routes. The recommended itineraries can be customized to match any interests and deliver something for everyone.

Along with the addition of 21 urban rivers and 7 coastal wetlands, we look forward to participating in the process to consider additional watersheds and hydrological areas to include in Greenbelt. Protecting a clean water supply supports agriculture and ensures the long-term health of the region.
