Turn on Your Cameras and Tell Us What the Greenbelt Means to You

The time has come...

Get on your hiking shoes, pump up your bike tires, get out your resuable bags and turn on your cameras. The Reel Greenbelt Video Competition is now OPEN.

The competition is a great opportunity to show the world what Ontario’s 1.8 million acres of protected ecosystems, clean water, agriculture and local food (just to name a few) means to you in your daily life. Selected finalists will get to share their story with great minds in environmental policy, protection and advocacy at at the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation’s International Greenbelts Conference, as the winning PSA's will be screened during the conference in March 2011.

If you’re a foodie, you know how much better things taste when they don’t have to travel 5000 kilometres to reach your plate. From the fresh tomatoes in your salad, to the thick and juicy burgers on your bun, to the peaches in your cobbler – local food just tastes better!

More into wildlife and protecting animals? the Greenbelt is home to hundreds of creatures big and small- like the Southern Flying Squirrel - have you seen a squirrel fly? pretty cool.

or maybe you're an adrenaline junky and love to hike or cycle?  so tell us about your Greenbelt adventures! Whether exploring the Niagara Escarpment by bike, hiking in Tobermory or taking a swim in the refreshing tropical-blue waters of the area, there are stories to be shared!

If you just like to make movies – dream of seeing your name on the big screen - we hear that too - this is a great opportunity not only to get your name out there; but also to give voice to an important issue - you never know who could be watching.

Because the competition is all about your expereinces, the possibilities are really endless  - just like the Ontario's Greenbelt.

So take a few hours and film a PSA – you could win some cash, great prizes, or even more important...change someone’s perspective.

Until next time!
