This project will increase the production of ethno-cultural vegetables on Greenbelt farms and connect growers to markets. Vineland will provide training and support for rural and peri-urban farmers in the Greenbelt to increase the production of Oriental and Indian eggplant, okra, Thai chili peppers and others.
They will create opportunities for producer to access markets for their products through several activities and events. The project will also raise awareness among buyers and consumers on the availability and quality of Greenbelt-grown ethno-cultural vegetables through training and educational sessions, presentations, and through the World Crop Learning Gardens. This project builds on recent work bv Vineland and The Stop Community Food Centre that that was awarded the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence.
