Winter Holiday Getaways in the Greenbelt

Don't let the dropping temperatures stop you from enjoying the many pleasures Ontario's Greenbelt has to offer. Winter can be a spectacular time to plan a "staycation" and the Greenbelt provides a wealth of options, from cozy, warm indoor activities to refreshing outdoor adventures.

From the Bruce Trail to the Niagara wineries and spas, from Caledon to Lake Simcoe, there's something for you. Here are just a few examples we've come across recently, all within a short drive of the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Bruce Trail
Bruce County calls itself "Ontario's Natural Retreat" and it's no wonder why! Take your pick of snow-shoeing, sleigh rides and cross country skiing - 280 kilometres of the 885 kilometre-long spectacular Bruce Trail runs through Bruce County. Check out www.explorethebruce.com for more information on winter outdoor and indoor activities for you, your friends and family to enjoy.

Niagara Wineries
While the vines may rest under a blanket of snow, Niagara wineries are still busy doing what they do best: making remarkable, award-winning wines. Tourism Niagara has built a great web itinerary planner to help you plan your trip, map out your wine route, add in other interesting sites and find accommodations. Check out https://www.visitniagaracanada.com/ to get started. Just be sure when you visit to prefer VQA wine, the only wine guaranteed to be made with 100% Ontario grapes.

Lake Simcoe
The Briars is a historic resort run by innkeepers John and Barbara Sibbald. It is located in Jackson's Point, on the south shore of Lake Simcoe, and only one hour from downtown Toronto. A four season destination, visitors can enjoy guided hikes, horse-drawn sleigh rides, skiing, snow-shoeing, and after, a spa treatment and a candlelight dinner. Check out their Winter Magic and January Super Save holiday packages online at www.briars.ca.

Caledon
Ideally located in the rolling hills of Caledon and surrounded by gallery and boutique filled villages, the Millcroft Inn & Spa is a place for relaxation and exploration. Throughout the month of December, visitors can enjoy weekly festive holiday brunches, a 'Nutcracker' Festive Tea and celebrate new beginnings at their New Years Eve Festivities. Visit https://www.vintage-hotels.com/millcroft/packages/ for more information and packages designed for chocolate enthusiasts and those looking to get warm and cozy in the country this holiday season.
