Every Family Day long weekend, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum hosts Hamilton’s KidsFest, the country’s largest ‘bouncy castle’ playground. With more than 15 different indoor amusements that will have your kids jumping for joy, this is a great family outing for the middle of winter when you are looking to stay out of the cold. Along with my niece, nephew and mother, I explored the museum, the planes and KidsFest – admission gets you access to all three!
After the kids have had their fill of snow cones, popcorn, inflatable pirate ships and obstacle courses, I highly suggest bringing them over the other side of the hangar. And yes, it is actually an airplane hangar. One that has an extensive selection of historical warplanes flown by the Royal Canadian Air Force over the last century.
To make the experience even more enjoyable for the older folks (and by that I mean anyone over the age of 10), there are several war veterans that volunteer at the museum ready to chat with you about the planes and their years of experience flying them. In fact, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum has the only single Avro Lancaster Bomber in the world available for civilians to go up on a joy ride. It may set you back a few bucks more than the $18 day pass for each child, but for a little slice of history, it may well be worth it!
