Ontario’s Greenbelt is the solution for clean air, fresh water and healthy local food. At almost 2 million acres, it is the world’s largest greenbelt preserving productive farmland, forests, and wetlands from urban development.

The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation is an independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting and sustaining Ontario’s Greenbelt. The Foundation supports work to protect and restore our natural environment, strengthen the agricultural sector, and create a pattern of urban settlement that supports the Greenbelt.

Scope of Work:

The successful candidate will report to the Vice President of Marketing, while working closely with the Director of Public Affairs, the CEO and other Foundation team members to:

• Execute high quality communications for all aspects of the Greenbelt Foundation and its programs, including earned media, which promote the Greenbelt and the Foundation’s profile to wide-reaching audiences
• Lead all media opportunities including those which communicate key grant activities, events and accomplishments
• Lead, plan, project manage and successfully deliver key projects, materials and partnerships such as events, marketing materials, social media and website projects, etc.
• Create media plans that communicate Greenbelt Foundation messaging, and results
• Develop and build relationships with reporters, editors, producers, columnists, etc. in print, television, radio and online media, both mainstream and trade
• Maintain media lists and oversee media tracking and reports on media presence
• Work with grantees to collaborate on/approve communication strategies and materials and ensure these support the goals of both the Greenbelt Foundation and the Greenbelt Fund
• Assist in the managing issues/crisis communications as required
• Acting as an organizational spokesperson as required
• Participating in and driving proactive media interviews and campaigns
• Write and edit meaningful content for dissemination including proofing
• Identify and disseminate relevant news in a timely manner 
• Maintain up to date lists and contacts 
• Establish and adjust benchmarks and indicators for success
• Conduct all other duties as assigned

Qualifications - The successful candidate will have:

Knowledge and Experience:

• Minimum of five years’ experience in the communications/public relations field
• Proven ability to manage all aspects of a communications rollout – from strategy to project management to generating media interest
• Skilled in the use of social media tools including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
• Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
• Experience with the Media Relations Points system will be considered an asset
• Knowledge and experience working in NationBuilder will be considered an asset
• Knowledge of land use planning, environmental, and/or agricultural issues will be considered an asset
• A valid driver’s license will be considered an asset, though is not mandatory
• A great sense of humour
