We are pleased to confirm that the Government of Ontario has allocated $20 million to the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation in the recent provincial budget (see page 29 of  http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/budget/ontariobudgets/2011/papers_all.pdf . We are humbled that the Government recognizes our valuable work.

The Greenbelt is one of Ontario’s most popular initiatives, increasing the quality of life for all its citizens.  It provides clean water and fresh air, healthy local food, and great activities for families to enjoy the outdoors.

With this funding, we look forward to working with new and existing partners to foster economic prosperity, to support Greenbelt farmers and their families, to raise awareness on the Greenbelt’s enormous value, and to engage in effective environmental stewardship activities.

We will continue to invest our funds wisely, to leverage our grants to increase impact, and to build strong rural/urban relationships, ensuring the Greenbelt is permanent, beneficial and valuable.
