Recruiting our new CEO: Position Profile

Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer.

The Opportunity:

We are a charitable grant-making organization working to help keep farmers successful, strengthen local economies, and protect and grow natural features, is seeking the second Chief Executive Officer in its 12-year history. The new CEO will continue the impressive work of the Foundation, building on its established accomplishments and relationships. 

The Candidate Qualifications:

While the Hiring Committee of the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation is aware that no single individual is likely to meet all of the following criteria in equal measure, the following attributes are seen to be highly desirable, and will be sought in candidates for the CEO position:

  • A broad and strategic understanding of local food and agriculture, environmental protection, planning and economic development, and tourism and recreation;

  • Entrepreneurial skills, demonstrating the ability to build relationships and foster coalitions among diverse stakeholders;

  • Experience in working successfully with volunteer Boards of Directors, Advisory Committees, and a variety of not-for-profit organizations;

  • Political acuity; experience in working in a non-partisan way with all parties and all levels of government;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written;

  • Demonstrated fundraising and public relations expertise;

  • Strong financial and human resource management skills, to lead the dedicated staff at Greenbelt.
