The Greenbelt Foundation is an independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting and sustaining Ontario’s Greenbelt. Position: Senior Grants Officer
Duration: Permanent Full-Time position
Hours/Weeks: 40 hrs. (5 days/wk)
Position Overview:
The Senior Grants Officer is a key member of the grant-making team, reporting to the Foundation’s Senior Program Manager. The Senior Grants Officer will primarily support the grant-making process and project outcomes, record keeping, and grant evaluation and reporting. The Grants Officer will also convene meetings and other activities to facilitate knowledge transfer among grantees and work closely with the Foundation’s communications staff. This position may also support specific program analysis and management activities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Grants Management
- Report to and work with the Senior Program Manager to support and manage the Foundation’s grant program and approval process.
- Apply project management skills to the grantmaking program and process, e.g. development of workback schedules, gantt charts, program workplans, etc.
- Track and document all grant data and metrics using grant management software (Fluxx) and spreadsheets (Excel) to ensure accurate record keeping of decision-making and grant projects.
- Draft and administer funding agreements and monitor grant project implementation and results.
- Correspond with grantees and organize meetings to facilitate knowledge transfer, including responding to requests regarding project scope, timelines, and budget.
- Manage and develop relationships with grantees, partners, stakeholders and rights holders.
- Review grantee-produced materials for alignment with the Grant program and the Foundation’s goals and objectives.
- Support financial management of grant program and annual auditing processes.
Analytical and Evaluative Management
- Use analytical skills to identify the strengths, weaknesses and feasibility of grant proposals and alignment with the Foundation’s Grant program.
- Write reports and project summaries that provide evidence in support of the decision-making process and communicate the significance of project outcomes.
- Draft and contribute to reporting for government funders, annual reports and board of directors.
- Evaluate grant projects through qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Review project results and identify impacts achieved for the Greenbelt.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with communications staff to generate and share Grant Program results and success stories.
- Support grant funding announcements, project events and relevant committees.
- Support outreach and engagement with grantees to further the Foundation’s communication and engagement goals.
- Support the Foundation’s mission and vision to protect and enhance Ontario’s Greenbelt through education, research, grantmaking and partnerships.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Competencies
- Previous experience in grant making and grants management.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
- Well-developed organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong competency and ability to write concisely including report writing and project summaries for government funders and board of directors.
- Experience applying analytical skills in both written and evaluative activities.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Evidence managing stakeholder relations and rights holder engagement.
- Ability to apply ethical judgement and manage confidential information.
- Working proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and grant or data management software.
- Education background or experience in land use planning and management related to natural systems, agricultural systems, and rural economies.
- General understanding of the Greenbelt or sustainable communities including, natural heritage systems, nature-based solutions to climate change, sustainable agriculture and local food systems, recreation and tourism and cultural heritage.
- Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion to support the interests and engagement of Indigenous, Black and other racialized communities in the Greenbelt.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Our organization is currently operating on a hybrid work model with virtual and office work, based on demands of specific work tasks and/or departmental meetings. Salary is commensurate with experience.
